During July to August, in the midsummer, the GCOE Taihu team visited Taihu Lake and

Chongming Island for several times.

Chongming Island is the largest island in Shanghai region and the third largest in China.

The east part of this island extends into a vast salty wetland which is registered as one of

China:s 36 Ramsar wetland sites of international importance.

Comparing to the Taihu Lake, this island is well protected.

The research in China impressed all the GCOE Taihu team members intensely for the rapid

economical development and its influence to the nature and biodiversity lost.

Every country has the right to develop for a better future, in the chaos on the road of development,

we would be proud if we could do something for biodiversity conservation.
